Programs
Undergraduate
The Bachelor of City and Regional Planning is an eight-semester program. The structure of the undergraduate program has been shaped to contribute to students’ critical thinking in the face of problems on the basis of community benefit and the right to the city, by enabling them to see holistic relationships, helping them grasp the spatial changes at different scales and the social, economic, political and environmental dimensions of the processes that shape urban and rural areas and regions.
Master
There are two programs at the master’s level, namely City Planning Master’s and Urban Design Master’s programs. Both master’s programs are four semesters.
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in City and Regional Planning can apply to the Master’s program in City Planning. Students pursue a self-directed program of study at an advanced level under the supervision of a designated faculty member. The final product is a written thesis. In general, the program is about spatial changes that develop with socio-economic relations and planning interventions for these changes.
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree from one of the departments of Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Industrial Design can apply to the Master’s program in Urban Design. Students pursue a self-directed program of study at an advanced level under the supervision of a designated faculty member. The final product is a written thesis. In general, the program is about understanding healthy, fair, sensitive, comfortable urban spaces for livable urban environments with urban life quality, generating ideas on their practices and different academic perspectives.
PhD
The Ph.D. Program in City Planning accepts applicants with a Master Degree in the field. Applicants to this program are expected to demonstrate some level of expertise and an exceptional interest in advanced studies in City and Regional Planning. By the end of the second year, students take the mandatory comprehensive examination in their field of study and propose a research committee. The final product is a doctoral dissertation that needs to be approved by the research committee.
